Long Melford with its many antique shops, tea rooms and country houses such as Kentwell hall and Melford Hall. Both country houses are open to the public.
Walk in and around Lavenham, with a visit to the old guildhall, which is owned by National trust. This is one of the most beautifully preserved medieval villages in England.
Bury St Edmund with its Abbey gardens, cathedral, city walks, museums, but also a variety of shops. There is a lively market on Saturdays.
Day trip to Cambridge. Along the way you will pass Newmarket where everything is about horses.
Explore Hartest and the surrounding area. Walk across the cornfields or head for Hawkedon on foot or by car.
Day trip to Sudbury, walk along the River Stour, visit the museum of painter Gainsborough who has put this environment on canvas.

A day trip to London is also worthwhile and if you want to see a large castle go to Framlington. Ely is recommended for a beautiful cathedral. The sea is also not far away and with good weather definitely recommended.
